Happy New Year!
This might sound a bit late to say now, but today it´s the Persian new year and since it´s non religious and non political I think it´s propriate for us all to celebrate it :-)

Here they come. There is only a few of them here yet, but more will come. The quality isn´t the best on this and the comming pictures but at least this time You can see clearly that it´s cranes.

They said that we would have sun all over the weekend, but as usual they were wrong. The clouds came today so I made the right decision to take the day of yesterday. Then I at least got one day of sunshine, something my friends at work woun´t get :-)

I drove by the lake on my way home from work as I said I would and there were a few cranes there together with some swans and geese. But in a few weeks time there are going to be around thirteen thousand cranes. Well not by the lake alone, but everywhere. Then suddenly they will all be gone again. All but those who nest here and a lot of yearlings that are to young to nest.

In summer I always sleep with an open window and when I start to wake up I suddenly hear louds shoutings from cranes that has walked around in my garden :-) It´s not a nice way to wake up I can tell you :-) First time I woke up to that sound I thought it was the fire alarm going on :-)

It´s Friday and it´s new years (eve? I´m not sure, could be new years day too?) but I´m not going to celebrate to hard. A pot of tea and perhaps a couple of hot sandwiches will do for me I think :-)
Be good!

The little boxes You can see in the background can be rented for a day. The problem is that when You´re in there You can´t go to the toilette :-) (It´s not allowed to disturb the cranes You see). So if one really needs to go, there´s a bucket with a lid in that box. Personally I don´t think it´s woth it :-)

Hi Woody!
Yes it´s something else when they all arrive at the same time :-) I think they just are looking for frogs and other small animals to feed on, so they never leaves a mark in my garden. But even if they did I wouldn´t mind. Not every one can say thet they have cranes in ones garden :-)

Yes of course we can be persian :-) Wonder who celebrates next new year, don´t want to miss it :-)

I wrote a comment and lost it somehow. I said that I didn't mind one bit that the first picture of the cranes was blurry. You can plainly see that they are coming in for a landing.
The boxes. I agree with you that I am afraid it would not be worth it to rent a box. You would have to be a very dedicated crane watcher to do that...with the potty problem to contend with. :)
If cranes sound anything like our goose, Samantha, I certainly would not want them just outside my window in the morning. What a noise that is. However, we loved Sam so put up with her incessant scolding of the children and the dogs. Now Crane Lake is truly living up to it's name! :)
Nice to see that they are home once again.

Hi Mona!
It seemes Blogger has big problems with commentings now. I´ve read a lot of comments about that in many bloggs these few days.

With the cranes the danish and german tourists have come too. I saw some mobile homes at the parkingspot down by the lake this morning. Some of them are following special cranes every year, from the Netherlands (or spain, depending on where they stay over winter) up to their nesting grounds way up north. I think that it is those people that rents those little boxes. But as I said, it´s really not worth it I think :-)

The sound from the crane is much louder than the sound from the wild geese. It´s like putting ones ear close to the signal horn of a car and that really makes one wake up :-) :-)
Have a nice day now!
Christer.
