The rowans are filled with berries now. Old superstition says that if the rowan has lots of berries the winter will be hard. That´s not true ofcourse, it just tells us that summer has been grate for the trees. Birds will have lots to eat anyway.

There are almost no birds singing any more now, autumn is just around the corner and most of their young ones has left the nests. For those eating insects the food supply slowly gets smaller. Most birds are preparing to move south again. Magpies however doesn´t think that at all, they all know that Orvar will let them in to his home, feeding on cat food and other things they can find here :-)

More and more cranes are arriving now. But they don´t make so big gruops now as they do in spring. They gather in groups of ten to twenty birds, probably close neighbours from the place they spent summers and all their younglings of course. After landing their shoutings ekoes all over the fields, for some reason they want to tell the world that they have arrived.

One could think that there would be lots of water in the creeks now when we´ve gotten more than twice the ammount of rain this late July. But the draught before that has made the bog really dry.

It´s sunday morning and all people still sleeps. If I didn´t know better it would be easy to belive that I was the only existing person on earth. Not a car can be heard from the big road, nor any aeroplanes from the sky. Only the buzzing sound from flies and mosquitoes and a chirping or two from the birds that will stay here over winter breaks the silence.

Erna, the old lady, walks around in her own thoughts and the two brothers are fighting over a stick they have found. Bertil stays behinds us for a bit. He has found an interesting place by a ditch that still has some water in it. Perhaps it is a place for small mice to come and drink by? Or is it a katydid that has cought his attention? Even though a katydid is just a very big grasshopper they can bite, so he´d better be careful. That bite hurts

Fuchsia minimiflora. This is the normal color on the flowers.

But sometimes a mutation comes along and the skirt of the flower becomes white instead. The flowers are so small that they are difficult to pictures of.
It´ll be a sunny and calm day today. A low pressure is closing in and pehaps the clouds will reach us later. The rain wount reach us until tomorrow anyway. Perhaps a dragon fly or two will visit my pond and perhaps they will lay eggs in it too. Grasshoppers and katydids will start playing their violines in the afternoon and when sun goes down they´ll get hunted by the bats looking for their breakfast. Days like this never hurts.
Have a great day now!

That picture of the tall trees grabbed me. WOW. What a beautiful morning in Sweden where you are Christer. Must be nice to think you're the only one on the planet. Well at least for a morning walk. I've had those feelings too when no one is sighted on the beach and all the sounds are from nature. Especially birds fighting for food. Enjoy your Sunday off.

hi is erna? is she allowed to go on your walks now? living in the city can be quite noisy and when i am in front of my house i am smack dab in the city. but when i go out back i can hardly hear a thing unless a helicopter is rushing someone to a hospital. they make a lot of noise. one of the reasons that i get up so early every day is because i like the feeling of being the only one up and moving around. and at 4:30 in the morning i usually am the only one! i like knowing that i have most of my work done before anyone else is out of bed. we are going to be terribly hot today so i better get moving. have a good day! joyce

Hi Christer.

Lovely post today. You do such a fabulous job painting your world in both photos and words! I especially enjoyed visualizing the grasshoppers and katydids playing their violins!!!

Have a great day,

Hi Z&M!
Yes it was a really nice morning today. Since I´ve been working on weekends I haven´t had that much silent mornings for a while. I realised how much I`ve been mising them.

It´s easy to get that feeling by the ocean too!
have a great day now!

Hi Joyce!
Erna is doing fine and is allowed ton take short walks with us. I realised that she got terribly stressed when she couldn´t follow us on our walks. She howeled and barked and were all over the house, so she´s much kalmer if she can follow us. We don´t walk far, but stays at a place for a long time so the boys can run around as they please and she can walk around calm beside me.

You really are alone in the world at 4:30 am :-) It´s really calm even in bigger cities then. It´s a great feeling :-)

It´s still really hot here now, but clouds has come so we can´t see the sun here. I wouldn´t get surprised if we´ll have thunder later tonight because colder winds are closing in. Perhaps this is the last day of real summer?
have a great day now and take it easy in the heat!

Hi Valerie!
I wonder why we say they play the violine. If a violine sounded like that it would be terrible :-) :-) But I love the sound from them, even if it means summer has come to an end.
Have a great day now!

isn't it amazing how our pets love us unconditionally? even if they are sick they still want to be by our side. i can just imagine how sad erna was being left behind. i won't travel if i can't take teddy with me. i just don't think it is fair to her to be so sad just so i can go somewhere. i traveled my whole life so i don't mind being home or just going places i can take her. joyce

Hi Joyce!
Same here, I don´t travel if I can´t take my dogs with me. Almost the same when wisiting others too. They didn´t come to me asking to stay here, I brought them here so there for I must spend as much time as possible with them. I even take them with me to work when working weekends :-)

The song "Country Roads" by John Denver, comes to mind when I see these photo's.

Hi Mona!
I have a vague memory of that song and it fits rather good I think :-)
