This is how dark it is when I go to work now. The bigger bright spot is a lamp at the neighbours, the smaller below is the reflexion in the grass and the small a bit abowe is actully the planet Venus. All pictures becomes bigger when clicking on them.

We´ve had thunderstorm showers today, without the thunder :-) I didn´t noticed it at all from my workplace, but they told me that when we had a break :-) When I finished work the sun was shining and the air was rather cool and fresh. So cool and fresh actully that there´s a fire in the stove and soon i will be starting on my second pot of tea. It´ll be a hard night I´m afraid :-) :-)

My new clock! We call this America clock and I´ve always wondered why.

But when opening the door to the inside there´s a paper glued to the backside. It is actully a clock from America :-) So we should really call it American clock :-) It´s instructions on how to put the clock together and it tells that the clock is made in New Haven Conneticut. But not the year though.

I bought the America watch yesterday :-) I´ve always wondered why we call them that and now I now why. They are made in the US, so I can´t understand why we don´t call them "The American clock". There´s a paper glued inside it that tells how to put the parts together and that the parts comes from New Haven, Conneticut. But it doesn´t mention what year unfortunally.

Now the time is here when I have a chance to photograph sunsets too :-)

Well this would be before the two on top of this, but nowdays I can´t move the pictures, just delete them.

The clock works perfectly, not to slow and not to fast. It says in the instruction how to change the paste on the pendulum to make it work perfectly. They told me that the bells didn´t work, but they actully works a bit to good :-) They actully doesn´t stop at all :-) :-) I think it kept on ringing for at least two weeks ringingtime :-) :-) I love that deep sound that the bell has, but that was a bit to much of a good thing :-) :-) At the moment it hangs in my kitchen on a bad spot, but that´ll do until I find the right place. A strange thing with this clock is that I´m supposed to wind it up every thirty hours. That means that I have to do it in the middle of the night sometimes :-) :-) I think I´ll do it earlier.

A red toadstool.

Today we walked out to the island just on the edge of the bog. It´s so dry now that I could walke there without problems.

I really have to mowe the lawn this weekend. Hopefully it´s the last time I need to do it this year. I´ve never undesrtood those who actully think that the lawn is the most important thing in the garden. I belong to those that think it´s nice when there´s moss in the lawn. It´s green and soft, what more can one ask for :-)

Autumn colors on populus leafs.

I feel that there is a need for more logs in the stove and that tea pot is calling me :-) Have a great day now, I will!

There were surprisingly few mushrooms out on the island, these tiny tiny ones was the only I found.

Lichens are usually very beautiful.

Strawberry leaf in autumn colors.

hi christer...i am glad to see you bought the clock! we call those clocks...ogee clocks due to the shape of the molding on the case. most of them were made around 1870-1890 in conneticut. i am glad you got the chime to work. you can speed up or slow down the clocks movement by sliding the pendulum weight up and down. i love the sound those old clocks make. oh...they sell here for anywhere between 150.00 to 400.00 dollars depending on the condition and the type of painting on the glass. yours appears to be stenciled. some have reverse paintings on them. joyce

Hi Joyce!
I´m glad too :-)Good to know the american name too. Over here they usually are rather cheap, we have rather many in our homes. But that doesn´t matter.

There is a little hatch missing controlling the chimes, so if I wind up the bell it continues to sound like crazy :-) :-) I´ll try to fix it soon!

Yes it must be stenciled and it´s a bit scraped of, probably when it has been moved around. But in a way it makes me like it even more. But since it stenciled it probably is one of a younger model, around the last years they were made then I belive.
Thanks for the information and have a great day now!
Christer.

My parents had a grandfather clock that looked similar to your new clock only it stood floor to ceiling, it too was made in Connecticut. I'm sure they had their origin in England. At least that is my memory of all the clocks my Dad collected. You may become a collector too if you find it easy or interesting to fix it. Sometimes my Dad would buy other junkers just to find parts for the ones he liked best. It was a life long hobby. The blackout picture today could be taken anywhere but the rest bring me back to your country setting. Very nice. Thanks.

Hi Z&M!
Yes, the first picture can be taken anywere, so You´ll have to take my word for that it is taken towards my neighbour :-) :-) I just wanted to show how dark it is here in mornings now and soon almost all day.

I have seen such a clock You mention, but they are very uncommon over here (and scarimgly expensive too :-) ). I either have to find another clock or let someone who knows what to do fix it. I love that sound so I´ll do something.
Have a great day now!

Great pictures today...I love them all; from the night sky to the toadstools, to the strawberry leaves!

Your clock pictures are amazing...I thought you were going to say that the inside paperwork said made in China...LOL!

Aren't the Swiss and Germans also expert clock makers?

Enjoy that fire and pot of tea,

Valerie

Me too...I am happy you got the clock. Soon I am going to post a pic of a mushroom that I took. Maybe you may know what it is. It will be on a post in a couple of days.
Have a great Friday.

Hi Valerie!
It would have been a lot of fun if it hade been written Made in China :-) :-) :-)

Swiss clocks are world famous for their quality! German clocks however I haven´t heard of.
Have a great day now!

Christer,
I have seen many of those clocks, most now in antique stores. I find their ticking comforting in a strange way. I'm reminded, I guess, of the song I learned in elementary school called My Grandfather's Clock. Here is the chorus which I remember so well from my childhood:

Ninety years without slumbering,
Tick, tock, tick, tock,
His life seconds numbering,
Tick, tock, tick, tock,
It stopped short
Never to go again,
When the old man died.

Hi Kat!
I´ve seen tham in many homes, but almost never for sale. So I was thrilled when I found this one :-)

I like that chorus! Don´t think we have anything like it in swedish.
Have a great day now!
Christer.

I am delighted that you bought your clock. NOW your cottage is truely a home! :) I am teasing a little but actually, that is how I feel. It is beautiful. It looks very old as do the instructions that came glued to the inside. You might be able to look it up on the internet. Look the place it was made...and you might be able to find out! It is beautiful. You must make a little video of it chiming for us! :)

Hi Mona!
I think You´re right. It isn´t a home until one has a clock like that :-) :-) I sit here by my computor and can hear the tick tock from the kitchen, makes me think of my grandmother a lot, because she had clocks that sounded just like that :-)

I´ll go out on the net to check out if I can find any information about the clock and the maker!
Have a great day now!
Christer.
