Mooses!

I was feeling good in my leg today, I went away and bought asupport bandage for my knee that gets a lot of beating now when my hip goes down the drain. So I decided to take the long walk down to the creek. The moose hunting starts soon, so I woun´t go that way until the hunt is over. Hunters finds any reason why they didn´t get any moose this year and I woun´t give them the chance to blaim me :-) :-)

My dogs stayed on the road all the time, so I had no reason to shout to them like I do sometimes top warn the wild animals in the forest. The sun was shining and the wind was rather calm. One or two birds were singing and I could hear cranes shout from a big distance.

If You click to enlarge this picture it will become very big. I have changed the light and contrast so You can see the two moose calves. The original picture was so dark thet it was impossible to see them. The two calves are by the end of the road in this picture.

We followed the turn of the road and suddenly I saw them, two moose calves. There were no time to adjust the camera, because they saw me at the same time and started to run as soon as they dared. I think they were unsure of my dogs so they stood still for a couple of seconds.

Just when I had taken the picture I heard a car approaching rather fast, so I and my dogs went of the road and it was to late to take some more pictures. It was my neighbour on his way to put out some more apples to the wildlife. Since he also is one of the hunters here he was delighted to hear about what I´ve seen. He was also delighted over that my dogs stood still by my side as long as we saw the calves :-) I leashed my dogs until we had passed the place where the calves had stood. One never knows where mother moose is and I didn´t want a close encounter with her :-) :-) Angry mooses are dangerous.

I can´t find any english name for this mushroom unfortunally. But I can tell You that it is derlicious! It tastes much like the more common Chanterelle, if You know what kind of mushroom that is. These however were alredy attacked by different worms.

I was hoping that we would see them again on the other side of the forest, when we came out to the fields again, but a couple of neighbours were already walking there so the mooses stayed in the forest.

Diane, do You recognise this mushroom :-) The read toadstool.

Beautiful, but poisouness mushroom. The white spots are actully the rests of a skin that covers the mushroom when Young. If there comes heavy rains they might fall of.

I was so tired yesterday so I didn´t bother to start a fire in the stove, something I regretted this morning. The night wasn´t cloudy as I thought it would be, so we had frost this night. The ice on the car windows was like concrete so it was a bit difficult to scrape it of :-) There were no ice inside however :-) But it felt like that when I got up :-) :-) So i had to start my radiators so it was bareble to eat breakfast :-)

There´s no risk for that tomorrow morning. The fire is already started and the radiators are of again. I have no tea and no coffee at home, so I think I´ll do a cup of cocoa instead. That and a cheese sandwich is never wrong when the weather is cold outside.
Have a great day now!

As I have said before: You really live close to the nature!
Great road to walk. And fun to meet an elk now & then...;-)
But watch out now for the hunters!!;-)
´Bout the Magnolia: Yes- we know by now that one can cut that much. If this one doesn´t work out as the other... well.... then we have to face that. We couldn´t leave it as it was any way.
Det får bära eller brista, så att säga!;-)

I would think deer hunting would be popular. What do Moose taste like? Glad you got to see the calves. I clicked on the photo and could hardly make them out. Too dark but thanks for trying. Maybe it's my setting on my computer but I usually bring them in when they are enlarged. Loved all the photos today especially the strange colored mushrooms. You could have quite a psychedelic time in merry old Sweden this winter by just freezing a few of the marooms. Maybe even smoke a few. Oh well, here's hoping you find some tea real soon. And put some bacon on that cheese sandwich it's making me hungry.

Hi Joyce!
Cocoa is sooo good, especially in cold evenings like the one we have now :-)
I could never shoot any animal, if they looked at me I would die inside :-) :-)

There´s not much feeling for hunting in my dogs :-) Orvar do let the magpies walk righrt over him when they come to steal cat food :-) :-)

I don´t mind gloomy and cool weather, but the wind can blow somewhere else :-9
Have a great day now!

Hi Nina!
It´s hard to get closer to nature than here, the bog starts just behind my garage :-) :-)

The smaller deers are fun to meet, but mooses! One never knows how they react and they are good at kicking both ways.

Ni har ju klarat magnoliaklippning förr, så det bär nog denna gången också :-)
Ha det gott!

Hi Z&M!
Those who hunts loves it! The group isn´t that big, but they are powerful because many in the parlament loves to hunt :-)

No, it was a really bad picture! I had no time to check the settings of the camera so it became very, very dark. Just my luck to get a bad picture now when I had them so close :-)

Tea will be bought tomorrow :-) But does bacon go with cocoa? :-)
have a great day now!

You bet Christer I recognized it. I am so sorry about your leg...and I too don't mind the cooler weather. Last evening I had to put on a sweatshirt and this morning was in the 40's, cloudy and also windy. This kind of weather reminding me of my Oregon as well as your weather and pics. When I come to your post it is like coming home.
Thank you!

Christer, Your pictures are just beautiful. The country-side is awesome. Those trees look like something out of a fairytale book :)
Thank you for the comments you left!
I did a post last week on Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe, I saw it was your favorite movie! Check out my post!

Those moose. Every time I see them I'm surprised at how they can be so quiet, and still so huge.
Weird how they can be so peaceful, so royally aloof, and still, at least to us with dogs, pretty dangerous too.

Hi Diane!
:-)
Well I´ll soon get a spare part so I´ll be fine :-)

We are below 25 F last night and it´ll fall down that much this night too I think. I don´t mind cool, but I do mind really cold :-)

I´m glad You feel like that about my blog :-)
Have a great day now!

Hi Misha!
Thank You! I think that the country side all over the world is beautiful. Doesn´t matter if it´s like here, like at Yours or like the deserts in Afrika :-)

I forgot to comment on that blog! I´ve seen the movie and love it! But I haven´t found the book anywhere here. I´ll just have to continue too look after it!
Have a great day now!
Christer.

Hi Northmark!
I´m glad to see You here!

Yes, how can those big animals move so quiet? An animal in that size would make a lot of noice! But they are magnificent even if I don´t want them to close :-) As You say, they can be very dangerous.
Have a great day now!

hi Christer!

thanks so much for your pictures...i liked the one of the "tree-lined road" particularly...it makes me reflect on life's journey...the field is so beautiful! (sigh!) i can just take a deep breath and feel the fresh air...

so sorry about the leg now...did you know that i have a bad back? i got it from a not-so-bad-fall when i used to go mountain-climbing (of course when i was younger!) every now and then when the weather gets cold, i feel a sharp lingering pain.

but i do have maintenance exercises and see my P.T. every six months. now, i'm nursing some knee pains...oh myyyy!!! i'm really getting older...nearing half a century old! but i love it!
gleaning all this wisdom from a very colorful, meaningful past life!

take care now, my friend...let's have some of that cheese sandwich and hot cocoa!(did you know i have swiss ancestry? mmmmmm....cheese and cocoa lovers!)

thanks much again for the good thoughts for us here...

Hi Weena!
I´m glad You like my pictures!

Our bodies are falling appart :-) I didn´t plan that to happen for yet a couple of years :-) :-) Well that´s life I guess!

My knees are also aking now when my hip doesn´t work as it should, but with my new bandage it´s quite ok actully. Fortunally for me I´m living in a country where we can get our spare parts without paying for them. I´m going to get a lot of spare parts before I get old :-) :-)

Swiss ancestry, they make really good chocolate in swizerland and I love chocolate :-)
Have a great day now and take care!
Christer.

Christer.
