Frost again.

I felt it in the air last night so I wasn´t surprised that I had to scrape the windows of my car once again. It´s a crisp feeling that only apperes when frost comes, so it has nothing to do with that it can be chilly in the air. I can feel it now to, even if the sun still shines and the air is luke warm. But if clouds comes in the frost will stay away. I´m hoping for clouds at the moment :-)

So now there´s a fire in my kitchen stove :-) and soon a kettle of water will be placed on it so I can make a pot of tea. I can hear the sound from the fire down in the kitchen (i have my computor on the second floor), but it´ll take some time until the heat reaches me up here. Sometimes it´s a kind of lid between the two floors and it can be really hot down in the kitchen, but the heat stays there for a long time. Then suddenly it breaks and all warm air fills the upper floor. Those days it´s usually too hot when I go to sleep :-) :-)

It woun´t be long until the sun has sunken down beyond the horizon and darkness will take over again. In summer we have the sun showing it self for over eighteen hours a day, in winter we have darkness for over eighteen hours a day :-) No wonder we sweeds love the spring :-) The only thing one can hope for in winter is that snow comes at christmas, after that it can melt away again :-)
Now I´ll make my tea and eat a bit of chocolate :-)
Have a great day now!

I can see these two calfs every evening from my window. The closests of them always wants to play, but the other usually don´t want to play. So the closest tries everything to make the other one interested :-)

Säg inte att du redan har haft frost...det är alldeles för tidigt!

Tjänare Katarina!
Två gånger dessutom :-) Men jag bor i ett köldhål så detta är inget ovanligt.
Ha det gott!

OK I give up . . . how do you play with a calf? Do they chase you as you run around the pond? I gather your little abode doesn't have a central heating system. No furnace? That would bother me to go all winter with just a kitchen stove. I see myself covered with blankets just to sleep. Great pictures today Christer, thanks.

hi christer...i keep my heat so low in the winter i bet your cottage is warmer than my house. i like being bundled up and i just can't stand heat. though i have radiators which is the kind of heat i prefer. those cows sure are cute. do the dogs bark at them? poor teddy is limping badly again. she still isn't eating all that much either. do you ever drink coffee or is it always tea? joyce

GREAT pictures, Christer! I always enjoy seeing pictures of the dogs and cats. If I were living in the country, I would have at least..three dogs. A couple of cats...a few chickens...:)
I just ate a couple of chocolates myself with a cup of coffee. What a comfortable feeling! Cozy!
The doors of the house..both front and back, have been open since early this morning..No AC, no heat! It has been months and months since that has happened. Mele loves it as she can see everyone who passes by and doesn't have to just rely on her little nose.
What a beautiful day in Southern California. Clouds now and then. I did a bit of weeding and felt a little heat then..but still not much.
Fall is only one week away.
Knowing California...the heat will give us one more kick in the pants...maybe even three! :)

A fire in your stove! I cannot wait to use the fireplace! I am a Fall and Winter person for sure.

No frost here...we are approaching mid 90's + starting on THU. That is just too hot for my taste.
Hope you got the heat up to the second floor and also enjoyed your tea and chocolate :)

Hi Christer, we live in a double story house too, and fortunately it is not so cold that we usually let the fire go out at night. Neither of us like to be too hot, we sleep with the window open all year round about 20cm.

I love the long Scandinavian summer nights. Ours are not quite so long, but I speak to family in New South Wales, Mainland of Australia, in summer and they are in darkness at 9pm and we are still sitting on the deck in light. Not sure about he winter days, there, ours are bad enough darkness about 3;30pm and sunrise 7am..

Love the cows too. How sad that one does not wish to play!

Hi Z&M!
Well it´s nor me playing with them, one of them wants to play with thr other :-) They run around and pushes each other and just seemes to have a great time :-)

I have electric radiators here, but I have them at a rather low temperature. They really insolated this house incredible once apon a time, so I only have to have a fire in my stove for a couple of hours every night during winter. The heat stays inside for a very long time :-)
Have a great day now!

Hi Joyce!
I do keep the radiators at a rather low temperature, it´s enough to fire in the stove a couple of hours at night and the heat stays at least all night and longer :-) But I do like to bundle up too :-)

No my dogs never bark to cows or calfs. They have them just outside their dogyard, when I´m at work, all day so they´re used to them. But they were afraid of them in the beginning. As soon as a cow or calf came close they ran away from them as fast as possible :-) :-)

I´m so sorry about Teddy! I really hope everything will turn to the better very soon!

Usually I only drink tea at home and coffee at work. But sometimes it´s nice to boil lots of coffee too :-)
Have a great day now!

Hi Mona!
I too wants chickens, but I´ve decided that it´ll have to wait until I´m a pensioner. Then I´ll have all the time they need from me. Three dogs is actully not a good idea :-) One, two or four works perfectly, but three is always difficult. Then all three will go their separate way and it´ll be impossible to keep an eye on them :-) But even worse is five :-)

I can understand that Mele loves cooler weather, she do have a thick fur. But since You have AC that wouldn´t be a real problem in Your climate anyway I guess.

A fire in the stove is always nice :-) Especially those rainy and windy days when it´s impossible to do anything outside :-) A fire in the stove, coffee/tea, a good book and a chocolate and the day is perfect :-)
Have a great day now!
Christer.

Hi Diane!
We seldom gets 90+ even in summers here :-) :-) I would melt if it was that hot here now :-) :-)

The heat rose the second floor rather fast, so it was so nice to get in to the bed and just fall asleep :-)
Have a great day now!

Hi Aussimade!
I want it to be really hot when falling asleep, but after that I want it to be real cool. When I success to get it that way I sleep like a log :-) :-) Temperature in winter here usually gets so low that it would be impossible to have the window open then. By the way, do You use fahrenheit or centigrade in Tasmania?

I winder if the days in New South wales is rather much the same year round? The closer to the equator the more even the day and night gets. new south wales is a bit away from that but I wonder how much differense that makes when it comes to daylight.
Have a great day now!

hi christer! ACL stands for anterior cruciate ligament. it is what holds the knee together. my last chow chow had this twice and had both knees operated on. now the thinking is to let it heal on it's own but this takes 6 weeks of confinement and a year of being very careful. the problem, and there are many, is that it puts so much pressure on the other leg that it usually develops the same problem. oh well, one thing at a time. you know how difficult it is to change their routines and here we are just coming into her favorite weather when she loves to be outside. i do have air conditioning and my garden room has a stone floor so as long as she is inside she will be cool enough. we have months of weather where the temps are above 60 degrees though so this will be a huge change keeping her inside. i am sure she can get used to it though. do your dogs stay inside for most of the day? joyce

The cottage by the Cranelake said...

Thanks for the explanation Joyce!
I haven´t heard about that problem before. I can understand that there probably will be problems with the other knee to then, it´s just like that with my hips. I started to put so much pressure on my good hip when the first one got bad, so now I have problems with my other hip. I hope that this woun´t happen with Teddy though!

My dogs are in the dogyard when I´m at work. But my neighbours tells me they stay outside most of the time, no matter how cold it is outside. Why stay inside in the warmth when one can stay outside in many minus degrees :-) :-)
Have a great day now!
Christer.

Christer not sure if you will see this now, we use centigrade.
Some areas of NSW are actually much colder than here in the region of Tassie that we live in. We are a temperate climate. I have lived in Places in Nsw that get - 4 ngihtsto over 40 deg C for summer day. Sometimes in summer the temp in Sydney does not drop below 25 degrees C. and it is very humid. We have the Australian alps in the south of nsw and victoria north which form part of the a range of mountains that traverse right up the eastern side of Australia.

Hi Aussimade!
I get alleretd by mail every time someone writes a comment, doesn´t matter how old the text from me is :-)

If I know right much of NSW is desert or close to, so then the temperature can sink really low during nights, but the opposite during days then.

I have to travel to Your part of the world one day, I want to see all that!
Have a great day now!
Christer.
