The day started out as sunny and rather warm. But now it´s much colder, cloudier and very windy.

I don´t have much to say today. My brain sort of has closed down and I´m mostly tired all the time. I think a cold might be comming my way. My brother has gotten one a week ago and still is rather sick. Perhaps he got the swine flu?

We have just gotten the first serious case of swine flu over here. A 22 year old man. He know can´t breath for him self so they use an artificial lung, a mshine, to breath for him. But the doctors belives he will come through it all. It´s the young ones that will get struck worst by this flu. We older has already got a similar flu and has some protection against the swine flu.

This is one of my absolute favourites in my garden, Ratibida pinnata or Yellow coneflower (or Prairie coneflower). It´s still a long time until it flowers though. It´s really rare in gardens in Sweden and I have always wondered why.

Another northamerican favourite of mine. Illiamna remota, Kankakee mallow. If possible more rare in gardens here than the cone flower. Starts flowering in mid summer until frost takes it. Should be much more popular than it is.

Look at the single flower, it´s so beautiful!

This one we call Rose mallow and seeing the bud open one can understand why. It´s just like a rose bud.

But opened it´s just like most mallows and they are all beautiful.

Praktlysing, Dotted Loosestrife (Lysimachia punctata) is really invasive, so one beter plant is so the lawn mower can cut around the flowerbed. I love it though. This doesn´t grow naturally in our nature, but it is a garden runner so now it can be found almost everywhere near an old garden.

It has some swedish relatives though. This one is called Lysimachia vulgaris (common lysing in swedish or Garden yellow loosestrife in english) also very invasive if living in wet areas.

The last rubber carpet is finally dug down. I´m not totally happy with the result in the back. The folding rises over the water so I have to use some big stones to get it down.

I finally dug down the last of the rubber carpet on my pond yesterday. It didn´t come out well in the back, the folding sort of rises up over the waterlevel. So I´ll have to find a couple of big stones to put on, so it´ll sink down. The edges will now be cowered with peat blocks. I´ll also have peat blocks to end the flowerbeds towards the lawn. But those peat block aint cheap so that´ll take some time. But now at least the pond is finished. The water became very muddy, so yesterday evening I ordered a pond pump and a pond filter. If I´m lucky I´ll have it by thursday.
Now I will make a pot of tea and try to stay awake. Tonight is the very last episode of 'Midsummer murders' and I woun´t miss it for anything in my life :-)
Have a great day now!

So many nice flowers and now the pond your garden will be a great place to spend some peaceful time once the flies are gone.I loved the pictures of your trip up north it must have been a great break for you but how did you manage with three big dogs in your little car?

A murder mystery. I saw how you laughed when Al Franken asked our soon to be new Supreme Court Judge to name the only episode of Perry Mason where Mr Berger won. You like these mysteries. That's a good thing. Love the flower photos today Christer. The yellow flowers that look to me that they are climbing are very beautiful. A maze of those would look lovely in my front garden. I like how your pond is doing. Teddy did a good job! Enjoy your movie tonight.

... No one grows flowers like you do! They take my breath away! You do have a gift for gardening.
I'm glad that you had a good vacation but sorry you're not feeling well. I'll include you in my nightly prayers and your brother. I fell in love w/your friend's house where you visited; especially the balcony. Oh, indeed, I love balconies1
When your pond is completed, could you please make us a video of it in action?
Soon, I'll be blogging again and oil painting. And, returning to my novel.
Have a very good week, my friend ... Blessings, AliceMary ...

Hi Woody!
I´ve just hung up a device that filled with water attrackts flies. So now there is very few flies around my kitchen door and to the pond :-) Don´t know how it works though, but I´m happy anyway :-)

It was a really nice trip, to bad that most of the roads were without little villages. I´ll find better roads next time I take a trip :-)

I simply push down the back seat, or prhaps I should write seats because it´s split in two parts You see. Then my dogs has a really big place to be on. They could lie down and sleep without problems. Small cars nowdays are much bigger inside than they look to have :-)
Have a great day now!
Christer.

Hi Z&M!
That video with Al Franken is so funny :-) :-)

Unfortunally they say that Midsummer murders has come to an end. But the brits really knows how to make these programs, so there will soon be a new series with at least the same high standard. They´ll start showing Foleys war next week and that is also top quality!

I´m pretty sure that You can have these yellow flowers in Your garden too. You only have to buy a couple of plants and soon they´ll fill all space avalible :-)
Have a great day now!
Christer.

Hi AliceMary!
Nice to see You here again!
Gardening is my gratest interest after my animals, they always comes first. But to be honest, I don´t put a lot of work in it :-) If the plants die, they die and then I´ll have space to plant new ones :-)

Well it is something special with balconies. I had one when I lived in Gothenburg and on that I could have anything. One can also see the whole world pass by from a distance if one wants too, without being seen one self :-)

My pond woun´t be complete for a long while, but I can make a video now and again so You can see how it progress. I can start when the pump and filter has arrived.

On Friday i will go and put color on the things I made on my pottery class. I haven´t heard anything else than that everything still is unbroken :-)
Have a great day now!
Olof.

Hi Christer!

Thank you for the very warm welcome back! I must take a few moments of time to puruse your blog and see all that you have been posting about; I sure missed all those beautiful nature pics, but I must say the break from technology was nice!

The weather in eastern Kansas is incredibly cool! I am loving it (mid-70s F), but my little ones are crying out for the pool. A wonderful change from the heat and humidity of the deep south in America!

Yes, I imagine that you're pond needed the pump and filter. All of my neighbors use pumps and filters in their water gardens.

Unfortunately, I too picked up a nasty cold while on vacation. I'm blaming it on the yucky rest areas (little public bathrooms off of the interstates) that we frequented while traveling; that or the hotel rooms or restaurants we stayed in or visited. I jokingly told my husband it was the swine flu; but seriously, how does one know unless you get tested. I might need to go to the doctor if I can't get some relief from this chest cold/bronchial thing!

Okay, enough of my blabbing! Take care of yourself,

Valerie

Hi Valerie!
I think it´s good to take a break from all technology every now and again. That´s why I have wednesdays free from blogging. OK I read and comment others, but don´t write my self.

We too have very cool wetaher and that´s ok with me too, but it would be nice to have some sunshine too not only rain as we´ve had these last weeks. But we sure needed it, all trees and other plants are exploding in growth and wellbeing now.

At the moment I´m just waiting for the firm to sedn me a mail that they have shipped my pump and filter. They send it by bus so it´ll take a couple of days to come here.

I think that since You have children You should go and test Yourself. Children are the ones that will get struck the hardest of this flu. Why not vaccinate all in Your family now? They have just started to do so here so there must be vaccine close to You too.
Have a great day now!
Christer.

Hi Joyce!
I had no idea that they had mallows in marshmallows!! Marshmallows has never become so popular over here as it has in America. We can find them in all bigger stores, but not many buys them. But as usual, home made always tastes much better (unless my mother does it, she has always been a terrible cook :-) :-) ).

Perennial mallows can be a bit tricky to be honest. If they like where they live they spread like crazy, if not they die quick. I think they like my sandy soil here. We have some species living in the wild too. Most mallows however can´t take our climate.

I wish I could have canned nectarines. I have a small nectarine tree here and it flowered for the first time this year. No nectarines though, late frost took care of that :-) But I can imagine that it´s a tough job! But I´m sure You´ll enjoy them much this comming winter.
Have a great day now!
Christer.

Hi Nina!
Well I sow a lot and they die a lot :-) I promised to show how this seasons sowings proceeds and I have forgotten that. Must do it soon!

I´m not to happy about the back of the pond though, something must be done there.

Yes, how does one spell that name :-) We at least knows what we´re talking about :-) Britts sure knows how to make these programs!
Tea is a must all day long :-)
Have a great day now!

Hi Mona!
I´m glad that You´re well enough to get up from the bed! I hope that You´ll get better every day!

I´m not to happy about the back of the pond, the folding doesn´t fold like I want it to. But with the help from heavy stones I might get it right :-) Now I´ll start covering the edges with peat blocks so we can´t see the rubber after that. There´ll also be peat blocks on the end of the flowerbed and between all peat blocks I´ll fill the space with soil. I think it´ll be good. At least I hope soo :-)
Have a great day now and take care!
Christer.
