This is one of those days when the morning promised much more than the rest of the day could keep. When I woke up the sun was just rising and there was only one cloud in the sky. It had been a cold night and the lawn had a thin layer of frost. It looked to become a nice day.

My red berried elderberry ( Sambucus Ussuriensis (I´m not sure that´s the right name, but it was the name I got when buying the seeds)   shows its flowers now. A bit early, the relatives in the forest knows that should wait for yet a couple of weeks.
My first and so far only crocus to show a flower bud so far.

Scilla sibirica. In many gardens looked upon as a weed in many gardens. Not by me though :-)

But the lonely cloud soon got company of more and bigger ones and the northern wind helped to keep the temperatures low. I drove to the grocery store in Gudhem and I think there are more people by the lake than there are cranes now :-)

I had hoped that I would be able to work some in my garden today, but the cold winds stops that effective. The most exiting thing that has happened today was when one of my neigbours dogs came visiting :-) It´s a Basenji and those dogs doesn´t bark. They beep, scream and someting they call yodel. That yodel sounds more like a strange burp but it sounds better if one calls it a yodel :-)

The little girl had run away from her owner (happens most of the times they are without leash) and for some reason all her dogs on the loose thinks it´s fantastic fun to come and visit my dogs even though they aren´t that happy about these Basenjies. Normally I stay outdoors to see if I can see the owner, but today I heard her shouting in a high pitched voice to get the dogs attention, so I went inside. The last thing I saw the little dog do was eating cow dung and then take a roll in it :-) :-)

Well, it´s time to start a fire in the stove now. The northern winds is perhaps not that cold but it still makes me shiver inside. I´ll make a pot of tea and make a couple of sandwiches from that delicious bread I made yesterday :-)

Have a great day now!

Hi, Christer!
That was a funny story about the little dog. My dog likes to run next door to play with the neighbors dog and their dog likes to run over here when she gets loose. But if they ate or rolled in cow dung they'd be getting a bath and some tooth brushing. ;-)
My lawn has lots of weeds like your scilla. I have chionodoxa blooming in the lawn now. I like to see them growing there this time of the year. Helps me to realize that spring is coming.

the bread looks great! how did it taste? i had a raccoon in my yard today. what craziness! i chased it with a broom and it just stood and stared at me. teddy wanted to get it but i was afraid it could be rabid so i kept teddy away but that was tough. now teddy is at the park and i looked around and it appears to be gone. good grief. i might have to get out my gun if it comes back. what a start to the day!

Hi Caryn!
They are nice those little dogs, but a bit to energetic to be honest. They are like bouncing balls, all over the place at the same time :-) So my dogs gets very str3essed by them :-) :-) I guesss that she got a bath when they came home :-) :-)

Chionodoxa doesn´t like my garden that much. I have them here and there but very few to be honest. But I have a small tulip, Tulipa tarda, that has started to spread rather weed like :-) :-) One can never have to many of the early different bulbes :-)

Have a great day now!

Hi Joyce!
It was sooo tasty, the bread spices (as we call them over here) had just the right balance! That is the kind of bread I love to have for breakfast.

I can imagine that Your morning was quite eventful :-) :-) But how common is rabies in the US? We haven´t had rabies in this country since 1886 thank good! But now they fear we might get it here via bats flying over the sea from Denmark. Better to keep Teddy away from them in any case!
Have a great day now!

The bread does look delicious Christer. I bought some bagel chips at the store yesterday to go with a salad for dinner tonight. They are garlic flavored and I never tried them before so it should be interesting. More people than cranes at Crane Lake eh? That's funny. Maybe the cranes are there to watch the people. Maybe you should rename the lake "People Lake". How's that?

Hi Z&M!
That bread is delicious :-) I´ve never heard of bagel chips before. What is it? Like very thin slices of bagel?

Na, I think I´ll keep the name Cranelake :-) Soon all humans will be gone too :-)
Have a great day now!

I have never heard of the flower scilla sibirica before. I searched online to find what it looked like when the flowers open - very pretty. If I had those I would not weed them out either.
Have a good weekend. :)

Christer,
I had to laugh about the dog story. Eating then rolling in cow dung sounded too funny. Gracie would be far smarter than that.

The break looks delicious!

Stay warm!!

The bread looks wonderful. I was wondering...do you eat peanut butter in Sweden? Lately I have been into peanut butter and strawberry jam on toast for breakfast. Not so sure the calories are great for me.

I loved the pictures of the forest and the roads through them. And..of course the dog. :)
I am used to my calm little dog. She never runs when let out and stays right with me. I just say "in the house" and in she goes.
I loved the beautiful color of the blue crocus! Such a gorgeous color of blue especially with the green leaves...so pretty. I still have not planted anything this year..except one daisy and that was left from last year. Poor thing got left behind when I planted everything else. I think it will make it. I also have some mums to get in the ground this year..also left in their pots from last year.
When you speak of the cold..it sounds REALLY cold.
Hot tea would make anyone happy on a day like that.
Your neighbors dog! Well, glad it isn't mine. Dogs will do that sort of thing though...I guess.

I hope I never find out if mine would. Yikes!

Glad you like Howards bike. He is on it every morning after breakfast. Today he had to wait until after our garage sales were over...and then he was gone like a shot out of cannon. I didn't see him for nearly two hours! He came home all red faced and grinning!

I wish I had made him smile when I took his picture because he smiles from ear to ear when he gets on that bike. I think we are not the only ones that did not know John Deere made bikes! No one seems to.
Take care, Christer...

Hi Gardengirl!
It is delicious! It´s perfect to start the day witha couple of sandwiches with that kind of bread!

I think Scilla is the most common bulb we have here, just because of its willingness to spread.

Have a great day now!

Hi Kat!
I laughed too :-) :-) My neigbour has no controll what so ever over her dogs so I thought she deserved that :-) :-)

Thankfully none of my dogs has cow dung as an favourite, otherwise spring would be terrible since they spread it all over the fields now :-) :-)
Have a great day now!
Christer.

Hi Mona!
Yes we do eat peanut buttr over here, but it´s not a big thing. Most of those buying it feeds the birds with it during winter I think.

I do like that crocus and its colors too. It was popular to sell in small pots a couple a years ago just before spring started. Unfortunally it´s not especially tough so late frost damages the flowers.

That dog have had puppies two months ago so I think this was something they´ll do then. But I´m sure happy that it wasn´t any of my dogs doing it :-) :-)

I really like his bike! It´s one of those bikes that just makes one to want to continue to bike on :-)
Have a great day now!
Christer.
