The water is clearing up in my pond now. So I saw four fish in their this morning. Two of my fan tailed goldfish and two others.

I´ve been to the little village Kvänum today and got the breaks fixed on my car. Since I had to wait some time I walked around in the village and took some photos. During the time I did that I got the evil eye cast on me at least twice :-) The villagers didn´t seem to happy about me taking photos of the village. They have had probvlems with criminality and drugs there some time and most houses do have different alarm systems.
Kvänum is full of small industries and it actually comes more people in to the village every day than there are people living there. I took over 100 photos but I can´t show all of them here.

The new hotel in Kvänum. I think it is around five or six years old. Since there are a lot of industries here the hotel won´t be without guests. There was an old hotel here before. The owner had done hughe repaires on it and when it was about to re open it burned down by accident. This is a really nice hotel

The old village school. Nowdyas they have miniature golf there and a Boule course.

There are quite a lot of appartement buildings in Kvänum also. This one however looks deserted.

The main street in Kvänum. When I moved here this street was full of life. Small shops was placed along the street and there were always lots of people there, even during vacation time like now. Now there are three shops, one bank (the first house to the right, my bank) and one pizzeria.

They also have a secondhand shop. The closest in many, many, many miles. They only have open on wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Lots of what they have is more or less junk, but I saw through the windows some things I really would like to have. An old clock with its history written down for instance, it costs 500swedish kronor (around 68,50 in US dollars) therev were some other things too so I might go there tomorrow or on Friday.

It used to be a gift shop that I liked here. I could find anything in there :-)

There are some more photos I would like to show You, so I might continue this on Thursday. Now it´s time for a cup of tea and prhaps a sandwich or two :-)
Have a great day now!

The clouds flew low this morning :-)

Good Morning Christer,

Loved the tour of Kvänum, and I really like the style of the buildings. A very nice place. Sorry you got the evil eye! If you make purchases at the second-hand shop, please post some photos! I had to look up Boule - had never heard of it. It seems it is quite popular with some American celebrities!

Enjoy your day!

Hi Christer, Glad you got your brakes on your car fixed. This is a nice looking village. I love the houses, shops, and even the apartment buildings. It seems like it should be busier, but at least people still live there. I would love to do a tour of the second hand shops in Sweden. We have lots of them here in Oregon, but like you say, much of the stuff is just junk. I've found some wonderful things in them though. Plus it's fun to look around.
Best wishes from Oregon!

Hi Chris!
It is a nice little village, except for the drug related problems that exists there. But even those persons are usually quite calm.

I´m not sure I will be allowd to take photos in there but I´ll bring my old camera with me and ask since I´m going to buy some things then.

Boule is usually a sport for older persons here, but I love it! There are different variations of that game to, one is called Petanque.

Have a great day now!
Christer.

Hi Terria!
It is a nice looking village. I think that the appartement building I showed today is the one worst looking :-) But they have had big problems (and still has I´m afraid) with drugs there.

There are very few secondhand shops here. I think there´s three more that I know of in driving distance. But there are a lot more in the big cities though.
Have a great day now!
Christer.

Paranoia is global and it seems to be contagious.
It is said that we have a drug problem here and especially in my neighborhood but I'm here 24/7 and I don't see it. I think it is said by the police and news media to justify their jobs.
Nice village. I'd have to dump a couple of truck loads of trash on the streets to make it look like home. We Americans are quite trashy.
It was once said by a friend that it was easy to find a trash can here just look for a pile of trash and look in the center. It's probably there.

Hi, Christer.
Lovely photos. I have been trying to figure out why your village photos look so different. The architecture is a bit different but not by much. Oldfool gave me the answer. There are no signs of plastic shopping bags or styrofoam coffee cups blowing about. We Americans seem to have incorporated those things as a normal part of the scenery. The abandoned apartment building only looks like it has a neglected garden to me.
I love going into second hand shops. I used to like to trash pick at the local dump when I was a kid. I found some lovely things there. We don't have dumps anymore. Only landfills. All the good stuff gets picked by the landfill manager and the rest gets covered over with dirt for future archeologists to find. :-)
Have a great day and successful "antiques" shopping.

Hi Oldfool!'
Unfortunally it is true about the drug problems. There is also quite a big alcohol problem there. The drugdealers from Gothenburg opreated quite visibly there for a while. That´s why they look upon as from Gotheburg as people comming from hell.

If I could show You photos from any bigger city it would be much more trash around and I think that saying is true. There is most probably a trash can in the centre :-) :-) :-)
Have a great day now!
Christer.

Hi Caryn!
These smaller villages and towns are quite clean and tidy, but go to any bigger city and the picture gets different. I wonder how they think that just throws away garbage where they stand? Usually they can see a trash can just a few feets away.

We didn´t have any dump close by where I grew up and even if there had been I would most probably stayed away. I was terrified of rast and we had plenty around where I grew up :-) :-) :-) Nowdyas I think it would have been a different thing :-) I have had a tame rat once :-)

We don´t have any dumps either nowdyas. What can be recycled is (and those working there makes sure no one takes anything with them when they leave) otherwise everything gets burned and are used to heat up buildings in the bigger cities.

have a great day now!
Christer.

Hi Christer,
I have not seen your post in the morning then I remembered that you would fix the car. I'm glad this is resolved.
This town is lovely and I am sorry to know that there are such problems.
I also like to store objects of second-hand, I have found wonderful things in them but it takes patience and a good nose for does not suffer from the smell of mold.
I loved this house in Triangle, is very funny and even more near a green area.
You have fish in your pond! And where is Teodor to see it?
kiss and good night to you
Didi

What a lovely village... thanks for the photos... it's always such fun to travel along with you... and, of course, the most important thing is that your brakes have been fixed and we folks over here don't have to worry about you... hope you enjoyed your tea... come visit when you can...

I love these tours. Do you know how much a hotel room would be in that fancy place you posted? How much did that brake job set you back over there? The architecture is really so different. I'm thinking some of it would fit up in New England, maybe around where Kat lives.

Beatrice P. Boyd said...

The village photos are wonderful so I echo all the similar comments. But also how very different than we are used to seeing on your postings where it is much lighter than the walks in the forest. As far as people giving you the "evil eye" I would not concern myself with that as you are doing nothing wrong. Glad the car was fixed.

Looking for treasures in second-hand places is great. I volunteer in a thrift store. We do get some very nice items and also junk that people should have thrown out instead. There are 3 thrift stores near our home. I like to look for books, CDs and movies. Hope you find some treasures on your return trip.

Hi Joyce!
Sorry about Your upset stomach, sound as if You got what we call "The 24 hour sickness". It suddenly just hits and satays for about 24 hours.
I really hope You stay indoors if You not are feeling well. Heat can make things so much worse.

I have bread at home now, but rhye bread sounds nice. Perhaps I´ll make some here too if it starts to rain again.

Take care now!
Christer.

Hi Didi!
Yes it is nice to have good breaks again :-)

I think they check everything very carefully before the items in those secondhand stores are sold. I´ve never heard about things smelling of mould. They would soon be out of buissness if anyone noticed that.

Teodor knows about the fish, but it is the thing that he gets wet that stops him :-) :-) :-) But he has tried :-)

Have a great day now!

Hi Sharlene!
It is a nice little village and there will be some more photos on Thursday.

I always visit!

Hi Z&M!
I have no idea what a hotel room would cost there. I don´t think it´s to expensive though. I´ll check it out if I remember.

The break job costed a bit more that 2700 swedish kronor, that would be around 370 US dollars. Then they changed everything on the right fron break and lubricated the left back break.

I wonder if You couldn´t find architecture like ours in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Wisconsin since those were the states most sweeds moved to when they immigrated to America.

Have a great day now!
Christer.

Hi Beatrice!
It is fun for me tool to take photos of places I got to. It sometimes feel that I always take the same photos around here, just change the angle of the object :-) :-)

It is a bit fun with the evil eye since I am rathern known in the village. Most of the customers I had in my gardencentre comes from this village :-) :-)

It is fun to walk around in these second hand stores. One never knows what to find. But since the antiques road show is so popular most people are very aware of things value :-)

Have a great day now!
Christer.

Hello my friend!
Yesterday was a little upset to comment on your blogg.
Today the sun shines and I'm happy. Nothing like a good night in the peace of the family, to renew ourselves!

I love this city, indeed the Sweden is very cute!
Last night, looking for cookbooks, I found the book's IKEA
And I confess I was unfair, because it has other cool recipes, such as meatballs and sausages ... um we get water in your mouth.

Discover that you use two kinds of sausages: that of lard and Falun (Falukorv) and forgot to ask what the difference?

I saw the potato stew recipe, which my mother made in Brazil but as the name of potatoes noroeguesa! How nice, I liked it because I love these potatoes with gravy ... hummmmm looks greedy again with "mouth watering"
Good morning!
Note Your fish must like the lake, I liked!

Hejsan Anja!
Så du har fortfarande internet problem! Hoppas verkligen det löser sig snart!
Ha det gott!
Christer.

Hi Andrea!
Google translator makes me confuse sometimes :-) It took me some time to understand what You meant by lard :-) :-) But we do have a sausage called Isterband and ister can be translated to lard :-)

These two sausages can´t be more different, but I don´t know how to explain it I´m afraid. The lard one has more chunks of meat in it but Falukorv is like as if You used a mixer for a long, long time. Different tastes as well. I love isterband but Falukrov is quite tasty too. But we do have plenty of other sausages too.

I love potatoe stew :-) It goes with everything :-) but I make it to seldome I´m afraid.

I do hope the fish like the pond. They are now twice as big as they were this spring :-)

Have a great day now!
Christer.

Hello Christer,

So good to go on this tour. I've been bad lately about blogging. We are working on fixing up our top floor apartment for a wonderful vacation rental. We're filling it with comfortable furniture, antiques, and lots of books.

I loved seeing the architecture. I felt so at home in Sweden when we toured there. How close is this place to Malmo, or Lund?

Have a great day today and take care,

Hi Sharon!
I think it´s healthy not to put a high priority on blog writing if one has other things to do :-) And filling a home with books are much more important!

Well it´s about 220 miles to Lund from Kvänum I would guess. The architecture is a bit different down there on the old houses, more or less half danish I would say.

Have a great day now!
Christer.
