There´s a fire burning in my stove and I have a hot cup of tea by my side. It is really cold outside today (only 5c, 41F) and it started already yesterday afternoon. The day had been rather nice with some sunshine, little wind and some raindrops now and again. But then it started.

The thunderclouds are building up already now in the early morning.
I think that the property that this barn belongs to (this is the one I´ve shown You before) is sold now. I´ve seen cars there every morning when I drive to work and I saw a little boy, seven or eight years ol the other day whe I came home.

I was looking at TV when I heard a sound that I thought was my neighbors V8 engine. So I didn´t care much about it. Not until the sky became so dark that I had to turn on some lights and the first lightning went through my telephone :-) (it is a miracle that the telephone works as it is since so many lightning has gone through it. But it is an old time telephone and they can take almost anything).

It didn´t rain at first so I thought that we might be on the edge of the storm. Thinking that, the rain started. The rainfall was so strong that I thought the road might be damaged by it. After ten minutes of heavy showers the hail came. Within a minute the temperature dropped to 45F (7C).

It went on for at least half an hour and after I went out to see what had been damaged. I think my tomatoeplants are dead now, they look anything but healthy. So I brought some of the green tomatoes with me inside to let them ripe in my kitchen window.

There´s actually a deer in this photo. Can You find it :-) I almost didn´t and I knew it was there :-) :-)

Potatoes are stronger ( they can actually survive in the ground in mild winters) but they too looked really sad. But looking at them today now when the sun reaches them I think they might make it. It was when I was looking at the potatoes that I remembered that I had my Cattleya orchids on the entrance stairs. Yesterday I thought they would die for sure, but today it looks as if they are alive, but very damaged.

My dogs and I walked in to the forest and out towards the bog later that evening. The ice was melting slowly, making mist rise from the ground. Not a sound could be heard except for some migrating geese up in the air. The temperature had dropped some more and I realized that I had way to little clothes on me. But not a single mosquito or fly flew around anyone of us :-) Hector, that thinks everything above 10C (50F) is way to hot really enjoyed our walk.

Now the sun is shining but I have already seen more thunderclouds close to the village. I don´t mind the thunder but I would appreciate if the hail could fall somewhere else :-)
Have a great day now!

It came smoke from all chimneys in the village shortly after the temperature drop.

I couldn't detect a deer in that one photo Christer, unless it's lower right and I enlarged it twice. The pictures of the forrest in the fog are wonderful but eerie. I like that as it draws me in like a good mystery book. And the last photo looks like "Home on the Range" as in a cowboy movie. You got some good shots today my friend. They say today is the last day for at least a week for thunder storms here. I hope so. All the rain made the grass grow really high.

Hello Christer
Good morning!
What a beautiful day this oh, I almost smell the earth and wet grass after rain!
I love it! Delicious!
I often say that "the sky and the green are washed" when it comes the sun.
Funny, because the temperatures there melting hail delay, here is so fast that hardly the time to photograph! hehehe Melt raid.
Today we have a day like yesterday, temperatures between 27 º C, but entering in September that could change any minute! hehehehe
See you soon

Teodor today ventured more! hehehehehe

Hi Z&M!
That deer is almost impossible to see :-) But it´s not on the right side. I didn´t see it when I took the photo, but it jumped away shortly after so I did find it eventually in the photo too :-)

It was a eerie feeling walking out towards the bog when the ice melted. But that is when the bog is at its best :-)

I don´t mind the thunder but we have gotten enough rain as it is now!

Have a great day now!
Christer.

Hi Andrea!
It was a really beautiful day here, but now it´s cloudy and rainy again. We say much the same as You here :-)

The forest photos were taken an hour after the hail, so we got quite much. It got really cold and I had way to thin clothes on me.

The temperature just reached 14 here, so it is a real autumn day.

I will show You all where the deer is tomorrow. But it is really hard to see it even if You know it is there :-)

Have a great day now!
Christer.

Hello Christer,
I think I found!
Exactly in the center of the photo, that's where the deer.
Well ... at least I think so a deer.
A pity that his plans spoiled with hail.
I thought of something now ... what happens to fish when it gets too cold and the water freezes?!
kisses
Didi

Hi Christer, the mist from the melting hail was really eerie and it did look a bit like fog in the forested areas. The spiderweb was my great. The webs are much more visible when wet. I thought the deer was near the tree when I enlarged the photo, but it was hard to detect. We will be having more hot and humid weather this week and there'e the threat of hurricane Earl on the US east coast. Thanks for help with identifying the mushrooms!

Your neighbor's tractor looks like a John Deere model which is Grenville's favorite piece of yard equipment as he owns a small utility one.

Hi Chister,
Great shots today. I love when fog comes off the ground. It's eerie and romantic somehow.
I think I found the deer but will see if I'm right when all is revealed tomorrow.
Sorry to hear that your plants were damaged by the hail. Hope they bounce back.
I put some of my houseplants out earlier this week to get the rain. I forgot that they had been in a dark room and weren't used to the sun and now they are all sun bleached. Can't win. Either they die from lack of water or get burnt by the sun.
Have a good day.

Looking at your photos always makes me wish that I lived out in the country.
Some of my friends do but then it's a LONG drive into work!

Hi Didi!
No, sorry :-) No deer there :-) But it is almost impossible to see :-)

Our fish here just sort of half sleep during winter. They go down to the bottom and moves as little as possible to save energy. If they didn´t get a winter they would get so stressed that they would die! If it got that cold where You live all fish would die because they need all that heat You have all year long.

Have a great day now!
Christer.

Hi Beatrice.
Sorry but I forgot to answer Your question about those white plastic balls yesterday. Yes it is hay in them, but they are making silage of it in there. The grass must be rather full of moisture and when it is put inside all that plastic with a limited ammount of oxygen it sort of ferment and becomes much more nutricious.

I like the bog when it looks eerie like that. It must have been a bit warmer in some places since the mist got that high and almost became fog.

You get it warmer and we colder, can we swap? :-) :-) We almost never gets hurricanes here, so when they come we aren´t prepared at all. Normal storms is another thing, those comes rather regular during autumn and winter. But we aren´t prepared anyway :-) :-) :-)

I haven´t checked if it is a John Deer. But I´ll look next time I pass it!

Have a great day now!
Christer.

I think You have found the deer :-)

The cottage by the Cranelake said...

Hi Caryn!
The bog is at its best when it looks like this :-)

Yes, no matter what we do we do it wrong :-) :-) Like that I put out my orchids because they need a cooler period before flowering. But they didn´t really need ice dropping down on them :-) :-)

Have a great day now!
Christer.

Great photos, today, Christer... I think the deer is on the lower left at the edge just peeking back at you by the tree... just see the head... 41F! brrrrr.... already... sorry about your veggies... mine were mostly foliage this year, lots of flowers, but little food... hmmm... looking forward to your next visit...

Thank You!

Hi Sharlene!
That´s right! But I think it is its back we can see, but I´m not sure. I have to enlarge the photio to see that I´m afraid :-)

I actually thought it had been frost last night. I usually gets a lot of condense on a couple of windows then. It will stay this way a couple of days they say.

I managed to save a couple of tomatoes and it looks as if my potatoes will continue to grow. It would be great to show You all how they look.

Have a great day now!
Christer.

The cottage by the Cranelake said...

Christer.

Hi Christer! :)
Thanks for your "ant" post! I guess I was (am) beginning to feel sorry for myself. They are still out there. I tried to plant some more flowers today and there they were..NOT so many..but still here and there..so..tomorrow...back I do!
I couldn't see the deer either and I looks so hard (after enlarging the photo) that I began to imagine deer where there wasn't any! :)

Wonderful pictures! I always enlarge them.
I noticed on blogger that AGAIN they are changing the area where we post our photo's and write. Not sure what that is called...but..it give different sizes and you can just post the very large pictures. :) I thought that was great...except I don't have enough room. I need to make changes.. :)
The photo's of the woods...exactly like Zoey said...sort of spooky looking..and that spider web.
I wouldn't want to run into THAT at night!!
Some weather you are have...wow!!
Mona

Hi Mona!
It´s almost impossible too see that deer to be honest, but it is there :-) I´ll show You all today :-)

Have they changed the sizes ob the photos now? Why on earth do they do that? But I´m not surprised. As You say, they make changes all the time wether we want it or not.

I love to walk around in the forest when it looks like that :-) That is when the mist and shadows makes me see trolls and gnomes out there :-) :-)

Have a great day now!
Christer.
