”If Grace is with You look into her memories, see the world we come from. There´s no green there, they killed their mother.”

This is a quote from the film Avatar. Jake, a marine and an avatar is asking the tree of souls for help telling how the humans have destroyed their world.

Lately I´ve started to wonder how close we might be to fulfill that destiny in our world. Oil is now floating around in the sensitive wetlands in the southern USA and more is out there in the ocean. BP hopes they have stopped the leak, but no one can be sure for yet another week. Do they know if this mud lid they have made will hold for any longer time either? They weren’t especially honest when they asked for the rights to drill after oil and they said that this could never happen.

If it would happen they would be way to far out into the ocean so the oil would never reach the shores. That wasn´t especially true, was it? This company of incompetence is lead by a Sweed by the way. His way of meeting the criticism is to be quiet most of the time.

But we are also cutting down the rainforest all over the world in a high speed. What most people doesn´t know is that most of the rain falling there comes from the trees, not from the outside as I think most of us believe. When the trees are gone, so is the most of the rain. Instead of a forest there will most likely be a savanna at best, but can also become a dessert as worst. All people living there then have to move away and where will they go? Up north where it still rains, but will we let them? The trees are also big users of carbon dioxide, the green house gas that helps the world to get warmer. When they are gone the levels of carbon dioxide will rise even higher.

When the rain stops falling farmers then starts to use the ground water much more. They have now big problems in India with that. What will they do when the ground water is gone? They are almost as many as the Chinese people. How is it with the ground water level in China?

It has also happened that nuclear power plants break down. First on Three miles Island, but they managed to stop that in time. They weren´t that lucky in Tjernobil. We still have high radiation levels in some parts of our country. The strange thing is that most animals live and thrive in the area where there are the highest radiation levels. They live, but humans and birds die there!?

But then I drive to work in the morning hearing cranes shouting and see deer’s and foxes run around in the fields. Calves slowly waking up and almost every morning I see a new born foul when passing a stud farm, barly being able to stand steady for the first time :-) Then all hope for us return, at least until the next catastrophe comes around the corner.

Have a great day now!

Glad you're back :)

Beautiful pictures today.

I'm sad about the oil spill, too. We won't know it's complete effects until many months or years down the road. I don't think we have an inkling of the disaster and damage it's done. So.. we wait.

Hope you've had a good week, otherwise :)

Hi Perovskia!
Thanks :-)
Is terrible what´s happening down by the coast now and the damages is already big I´m afraid!

But otherwise the week has been rather good :-)
Have a great day now!

hi christer....soooo glad you are back! when you are ready to make the banana pudding let me know and i will give you the recipe. i am so glad things arrived in good condition. this oil spill is driving me crazy. they literally are trying to plug it with junk. old golf balls and the like. i might not know much about this stuff but why would all of this not explode due to pressure build up eventually and then pollute the gulf even more. the gulf coast is 80% marshlands and these areas are soaking up the oil like a sponge. they can never clean that out. and all the politicians and BP lie. it is so sad. i think the human race will eventually destroy itself and the planet will thrive again. humans are stupid but we think we are the smartest creatures.

Hi Christer!

Glad to see you back. Lovely pictures today.

We will not have killed our mother, our mother will have killed us because we weren't maintaining conditions suitable for our own long term survival. The planet always wins. How it wins may not be good for us or many other living things. We'll be gone but the planet will be fine at least until the sun explodes but that's another story. :-)

Hi Joyce!
I´ll let You know, we are plenty of people that really wants to try this banana pudding :-) :-) :-)

It´s terrible whats happening down there now!!! That coast line is one of the areas with most different and special wild life in the world! I don´t think they have a clue what to do really, but golf balls I´m not worried about. They can take enormous pressure without breaking.

Yes we will most certanly destroy our selves, but nature always finds new ways to start again than good! Stupid is a kind word to describe us :-) :-) :-)
Have a great day now!

Beautiful thoughts today, Christer.

The Gulf Coast disaster is just PAINFUL to watch...night after night. Even little Mary Catherine understands the devastating affects, even if she doesn't understand the magnitude. Do any of the BP or politicians understand the magnitude?!!! Just ask the Louisianans...they sure do.

We are still set to vacation down in Gulf Shores the 2nd week of June. Over the past 5 years we've become good friends with the owner of the condo and she has been emailing us with updates. She is willing to let us cancel at any moments notice, and refund our money, but we really want to be able to support their local economy...it's not just about us wanting a beach vacation. After Hurricane Katrina things were just starting to look up.

Man...especially Corporate Man can be sooo foolish!

Hi Caryn!
Thanks :-)

You are of course right. Mother nature will get rid of us or help to get rid of us before we get the chance to get rid of her. After all it restarts around every fifty millon year after hughe natural disasters. I just hope I´m not going to be around when it happens :-)
Have a great day now!
Christer.

Hi Valerie!
Thanks!
I think it´s a great thing that You still will go there, that´s just the kind of support they will need for a long time!

I´m not sure if BP understands anything, but I think the politicians are getting there now. Esåpecially since Obama says the governement will take over the oil cleaning. An impossible work I´m afraid.

Yes mankind is most often quite stupid but I still hope we can make it right some day.
Have a great day now!

We are desparate down here in Florida. We are in Hurricane Season and 8 are forcast to cross Florida into the Gulf. If it head into the Panhandle then all that oil on top of the water will be blown into cities and communities inland. It will kill more wildlife and cause a clean up that will surely take BP out. This is not a good summer for those of us who rely on tourism. Already people who had bookings on the beach are cancelling. The local newspaper said this could be the worst tourists season for the Port and south to West Palm. People are preparing here for the worst.

Hi Z&M!
It looks bad when seeing it on tv, but I can´t even imagine how bad it really is for You! and if BP goes under You´ll have to pay for the clean up Your self I´m afraid.

Better to prepare for the worst, but I do hope that You don´t have to see it happen!
Take care now!
Christer.

Christer,
I read your first paragraphs with an impending sense of dread at what we are doing to our world.

Thank you for ending with some hope.

Huvva.... Man ryser...

We are suffering the effects of total corporate greed. But, we also instill making millions into our children regardless of what it does to people around them. The green effort is like using a thimble to move the ocean...It's so good to see you back online. Welcome back. Such beautiful flowers you're sharing with us, today. Thank you.

Hi Kat!
I get that feeling almost every day now. If we´re not killing the nature we kill each others instead.

But then I see these newborn animals and feels that nature will go on with or without us.
Have a great day now!
Christer.

Christer.

Hi Sharlene!
So true! But one could think that we all nowdays knows how fragile this little place of ours is and we don´t have any where else to go. But I´m afraid the high and mighty won´t react until it´s to late for man kind-

It´s nice to be back :-)
Have a great day now!

Hi Diane!
Yes it´s a greate film! I thought that quote fitted rather well to what I wanted to write about yesterday and today.

Yes, future generations will need all help they can get. I´m not looking positive at the future I´m afraid.
Have a great day now!
Christer.
