I have a day vacation today since it was a holiday yesterday and weekend tomorrow. A good thing I did too it seemes. I´ve had a sour throat since easter and even if it mostly has been a very weak pain it has been there all the time. Yesterday however the pain increased and I got really tired, I didn´t do much after writing my blog to be honest and a nap didn´t help either.

Breakfast tables for squirrels.

Suddenly I got a rather high fever and went to bed at eight pm. Guess if I got surprised waiking up elev hours later feeling very well :-) My throat feels just fine and I´m not more tired than usual either. If we´ve had some sunshine it would have been a perfect day, now I settle with calling it a rather good day since it doesn´t rain:-)

A couple of geese are out on the newly sown field eating all day :-) They had a steady look towards us all the time.

Finally they decided we were a bit close and flew away for a couple of minutes. Click on all the photo´s to get a better look at them!

Yesterday I looked at a tv program about a swedish man that remembered how he and his school friends collected money to save the rainforest in Costa Rica. I think that was in the late seventies and all this time he has been wondering if the money did any use and if the rainforest still stands there. So last year he travelled to Costa Rica to see for him self.

One tree is gone but new vegetation comes soon. First comes mosses and lichens, later on lingonberry bushes and then a spruce has started to grow on the old tree stump (that used to be a birch).

The maples has started to flower. That is about the most colorful tree flower we have over here.

He showed us how forest companies more or less rapes the country by cutting down the trees and not replanting any. How orange farms makes the country more or less a one species place. How villagers that tries to save the forest, because they know water and all things they live on there will dissapere, are killed by the forest companies and shown as criminals in the big newspapers and showing that the forestcompanies has placed hughe rewards on their heads to get them captured or killed!!

This is a clematis I´ve sown long ago. It has never had any chance to flower or even grow since my dogs can be a bit wild in their games :-) Now it grows beside a Hawthorn and manages to produce flowers for the first time, there are lots of buds on it :-)

But finally he also shows the place where his money were send to save. It´s an US couple ( leading a foundation) that has bought a lot of land from the local farmers to save the forest. Sometimes there has already been rainforest growing on those places but mostly not. They always has to offer lots more money than the forest companies to be sure to get the land though. The man shows photo´s of how it looked on one place when they bought it and how it looks nowdays. The rainforest had come back :-) As he said, as long as there still were trees nearby they spread over to the places that once were empty of trees :-)

Soon the apple trees will be covered in flowers.

I have a net over the place where my cactuses grows and this tulip grows there too. Now it has put its flower through the net :-)

I have a vague memory of collecting money to save the rainforest, so perhaps that money did some use too? I can only hope. But now it´s time for a cup of tea and then out to my garden!

Have a great day now, I will!

It makes me sad how quickly they demolish the rainforest. Sometimes people don't care about the future, or doing one thing and it's surrounding impact.

Great pictures today :) That poor tulip, hope he opens okay :)

Tjänare Karin!
Visst kan jag göra det. Kan pröva med någon stickling också. Bladen blir mörkt gröna efter ett tag, men nu i början har de en fantastisk färg!
Ha det gott!
Christer.

Hi Perovskia!
Yes it makes me sad too. Í don´t like it when they cut down our forests either, but here they at least replant the forest. I can´t understand why they don´t do that in tropical countries, they must understand that they would make much more money in the long run.

I think that tulip will open up in a week if we get some warmer weather. As long as nothing, like deers, comes and eats it :-) :-) :-)
Have a great day now!

Hi Z&M!
Yes in a way it was nice, but in a way it was scary since they actually killed people to get to the trees. If it was a swedish program You saw it must have been that one. But I guess several people must have had the same thoughts about they have made a change.
Have a great day now!

Hi Joyce!
Good to get the cold out of the system! and a long weekend is never wrong :-) :-)

You have so much more in Your garden than I have so I can understand how much You have to do there! I mostly (yet) have lawn so my dogs can run around like they want to :-)

Glass is really much heavier than one can imagine.Just get them into Your car and when You arrived to those who will get them just force them to carry themselves from the car :-) :-) :-)
Have a great day now!

Hej Christer!
Lovely photos on your blog as always, inspiring me to get my camera now and go out and get a few shots before it gets too dark!
I've a lovely vigorous dark purple lilac(Syren, syringa) in front of the house and it's in bloom now.
So off with me now!

Hi Liz!
I´m glad You like them :-)
My lilacs only have buds yet and today the first white flowerbuds showed themselves :-) I cut down the lilac hedge two years ago so I don´t know how many flowers there will be, but I think it will look grand when they all open up :-)
Have a great evening now!
Christer.

Christer,
I always envy you your flowers. They seem to be everywhere, and they are beautiful.

My lilacs bloomed a week or so ago, early this year. They are a dark purple, and I loved the color.

When I was in elementary school, we used to collect money for pagan babies. Back then I wondered what a pagan baby was and what happened, where did they go, after we bought them.

Hi Kat!
Most of the flowers I´ve shown so far grows in my woodland, a space that is around 2yards times 3,5 yards :-) But it is my favourite part of the garden and the only place I tell my dogs to keep away from :-)

We to collected money to them, but they were never called pagans :-) We sweeds has always been to politically correct to use that word :-) :-) :-) It was always starving children we collected money to. But did the money help or did they end up in someone elses pocket? I do hope they came to those in need of them.

Have a great day now!
Christer.

Christer.
