The morning sky looked a bit like it did in the movie "independence day", when those flying saucers came in to the atmosphere :-)

The morning walk was right nasty today. There were so many flies and agressive ones too (we might have thunderstorms here today so I think that is the explanation for their behavior.) that not even my dogs or Bertil wanted to continue. The forest flies are annoying enough but all horsefly realtives makes it just terrible. So we turned around really quick and went home again. Unfortunally all these forest flies follows us home too, so for a couple of hours now we´ve stayed indoors. Oddly enough I could have my doors open anyway, forest flies doesn´t like to get inside. I´ve just been into my garden again and now they´re all gone again. I´m free :-) :-)

This flower (as I have shown several times here) only flowers for a day or two.

After a week or so it sort of flowers again.

The blackberries are flowering now, way to late. So we won´t be able to pick any of those this year. Last winter was to hard and spring to cold for them.

We´re going to get high temperatures today and it´s already over 24C (75F) but the wind sort of makes me feel a bit cold. Tomorrow will be even hotter but we will get showers during the day so either it will feel rather nice or feel like living in a steam bath :-) :-) :-) At least this heat will start my new fly catchers earlier than expected. They sort of need to ferment in the sun a couple of days until they start attract flies and hot weather does that faster. I´ll have to live with the smell of rotten meat in some places of my garden. Either that or have zillions of flies here. When I read garden magazines they often tells how to attract insects to their gardens and every time I´m thinking why should they want too :-) :-) :-)

I thought all my Japanese climbing roses had died this winter, but one branch had survived :-) It´s not hard to see that blackberries are a member of the rose family when You can compare the flowers.

Codonopsis clematidea. Perhaps not the most coclorful flower on the outside.

The few colors it has is on the inside.

I had thought of putting my potatoes in the ground this weekend, but it is a bit to hot and a lot to dry in the ground for that, so You´ll have to wait for those tips I would give You. I also have these seven things about me to tell You (since I got that award) but I do have a hard time finding out interesting things about me :-)

My favourite insect of them all, the Bee beetle. I love looking and studying them.

This however is one of those I loath most, but it does have beautiful eyes- Click on the photo to see them better.

This little dame is almost 2cm (two thirds of an inch). You can hear when she comes because she has a very deep sound compared to other flies. You also feels when she bites! This one however isn´t the worst one. There is one species I call "The stealth". She never makes a sound when comming, but the bite hurst soo bad!

It´s absolutly quiet outside now. Not a bird can be heard nothing else either. I think thunder might be comming in. Well I´ll eenjot those flashes with a cup of tea I think.
Have a great day now!

I'm amazed at the size of the flies you have in Sweden. I would think the government would find a chemical to kill them off. Looks like your backyard is lousy with them. I wouldn't like that and to think it's such a beautiful place to live. Gotta take the good with the bad as they say. Great photos today Christer. Love the one you call "Independence Day". Have a wonderful weekend.

Hej!

Did you ever see that movie "The Fly"? Ugh! I hate them! We don't have them too bad around here and not as BIG as those! I guess there are HORSE flies out in the rural areas but luckily I haven't seen any. I'm always out in my backyard area, where the dogs play and potty, scooping "poop"! That's what can attract flies to my yard, so I try to make sure to get it scoop as quickly as possible!
Take care! - Cindi

Hi Z&M!
Since we want all birds and other kinds of wildlife we´ll have to live with these flies. To even suggest finding a chemical would make You the laughing stock in this country :-) :-) This is nature, if You want to live there don´t complain about it :-) :-) :-)

I think the biggest ones of these flies becomes 3cm (1 inch is 2,54 cm) and they are fast too. Normally they can fly around 60km/hour (37 miles/hour). You can´t outrun them :-) :-)
But they have a very short season, so the most of them will be gone in some weeks :-) :-)

Have a great day now!
Christer.

Tjänare Vittran!
Inget regn här heller än, snarare tvärt om. Redan uppe i 30,4 grader.

Christer.

Hi Cindi!
I saw the old one and that´s enough for me :-)

It´s just because I live so close to a bog (it sort of starts behind my garage)that I have these flies here. If I drive just some miles away most flies are gone. So one could say they comes with the territory :-) :-) :-)

The flies hit us hard the first part of August and stay on until it freezes. Right now we are being plagued with mosquitoes. They are terrible and make working in the yard and garden a misery! I love the first shot, "Independence Day." I loved that movie! Hope you have a great day!

Sorry, but I do not speak or write in English, but seeing his agony over the flies decided to comment on something you "heard" do not know if it works, but say they hanged him on a transparent plastic bag in jordim (dining area) they disappear, another tip, this proven, are citronella candles, very good to ward off insects in the garden! A great Saturday!

Hi Kristina!
Our flies calms down in august, so it´s quite the opposite. But the mosquitoe plague is here already :-)

I like that photo too and Independenceday is one of my favourite movies :-)

Have a great day now!
Christer.

Hi Andréa, and welcome to my blog!
Thanks for those tips! I´ll try that citronella candles in my garden! Anything that stops the flies is worth trying!

I think You did rather well for not writing in english!
Have a great day now!

Christer,
I hate flies outside, in the house, anywhere. The greenheads are around now, and they swarm at you and bite. Nasty bugs!

Our day gets sunny, then dark and cloudy then sunny again. Thunderstorm maybe tonight.

Hi Kat!
I can actually feel sorry for flies waking up in the middle of winter, just to seconds later open the window and see how they freeze to death in seconds :-) A world without flies would be a great world :-) :-) :-)

I looked up green heads and it seemes they live just the sam as the one You can see in my photo´s They are probably cousines or something. Nasty as nasty can be!

The thunderstorms missed us today and most of southern Sweden, but we might get it tomorrow instead.
Have a great movie night!
Christer.

Hi Christer, we are FINALLY having rain here on the VA eastern shore. If you sent some - THANKS! After so many days of being told by forecasters that there was a chance of thunderstorms or showers, it is finally pouring rain. Thankfully there have only been some small rumbles of thunder and no lightning. It's certain, the garden and vegetables are happy (finally) because this rain is supposed to continue for awhile. It's not a downpour, but just a nice, steady rain. Guess this means we will have to cut grass again this week. It was very humid this morning, but may cool down with the rain.

I have read a couple of blogs this morning that have reported rain and all are delighted to have it! None for California...none...and the heat is upon us. It is in the high 80's. So, our hot time is on it's way...and probably fires too! Aw well.such is life! Nice huh?:)
Ok..lets talk about those bar stools. Had they even been a pretty wood...(I love Pine) but these were...NO idea..but they were not pretty wood at all. All gone...and I don't miss them one bit. NOW for that huge table. I hope I don't mess that one up, Christer. Dan said he would do it but he says that and then never has the time.. :) So..I shall spray paint it myself. He won't be happy with me...but I just want it done!!
Flies..well...now...that is one little beastie I can live without. They sort of tend to just tick me off! :) (a little play on words there!) :)

Hi Beatrice!
I apparently was so successful with sending the rain to You that we now need it ourselves :-) :-) :-) But I´m happy as long as I don´t have to cut any grass :-) :-)

I love those nice summer rains. Having a door or window open, listening to the rain, drinking tea and reading a good book :-)

Enjoy the rain now!
Christer.

Hi Mona!
Over here some areas hasn´t gotten any rain for months, others has it all the time. I live sort of in between :-) I do hope it doesn´t get to hot over at Yours!

I can see no reason why You should mess that up! From what I´ve seen so far You have no problems handling that spray paint, on the contrary! Just go on with slow and easy moves and You´ll do fine!

I wouldn´t wish anyone to have these kinds of flies. I can imagine how bad it must be for all those animals that can´t hide from them! But the flies lives just a short time and then they´re gone. I wish that was now :-) :-) :-)

Have a great day now!
Christer.

So glad the flies love you and your bog... they are much too big for me... and we certainly do appreciate your sending us some rain because my veggies are very happy... love the bug pics...

Hi Sharlene!
I think those flies are way to big for all of us :-) :-) But they are great food for birds and their season is short. Just a couple of weeks more and then they are gone. Ok they will be replaced by another nasty one though :-) :-) But that one is rarer here :-)

That beetle is just cute in all ways and doesn´t hurt anything :-)

Have a great day and hope You´ll get some more rain :-)
Christer.

Thus, I realized that some people were worried about the flies, but the "citronella candle" does not kill herself, only to reap the amazing wonder that is able to make a meal outdoors! and good summer to all !!!!!!

The cottage by the Cranelake said...

Hi Andréa!
Great that it doesn´t kill the flies! But to be honest, I think most of us wouldn´t mind if they did :-) :-)

It would be fantastic to be able to have a meal outdoors during summer, that´s impossible here.
Have a great day now!
Christer.
