Perhaps I did fill my comming pond with a bit to much water. It woun´t be long until it´s flowing over the edges now.
It still rains here and it rains a lot. My pond is slowly getting filled with more water than it can take, but that´s no problem. The soil around it is so dry that it´ll soak it all up. Even if no one of us wanted to take a walk in the rain, I forced us to do so anyway. Yesterday the rain didn´t stop until late afternoon and then just for a couple of minutes.
There are actully three plants in this bucket. But it´s hard to see the smallest one. They will move in to the pond as soon as the rubber carpet has been dug down.
My dogs are like magnets to sand, so after a walk in this weather their fur is filled with it. Even if I dry them really good, sand will fall out of their fur for days after :-) But I´ve found out a way that helps a lot to get rid of most of the sand before going in. We have big fields here, mostly of grass that they make silage of later. If the grass is high I just let my dogs out there, throwing a stick or so. When they run like crasy after the stick, the wet grass sort of cleans most of the sand out of their fur :-) Okey, they become more wet than they were before, but it´s worth it. Orvar and Erna smells like dogs :-) when they come in wet, but with Hector it´s a different thing. He actully smells nice?! His grandmother was just the same. He smells like something close to musk! I have no idea why, but it´s nice for a change to be honest :-) The deep hole in the ditch is once again filled with water. I think that this is one of the places where many of the horse flies and other similar flies grow up.
The only thing I´m a bit worried about with this rain is the possibility of getting loads of mosquitos and other blood drinking flies. Perhaps most of the water will sink down in to the dry soil, but there will still be a lot of small ponds and puddles that is enough for them to grow in. My pond is a new place for them to thrive in also. I didn´t think I would have any fishes in the pond this year, but I think I might have to buy some anyway. Outherwise my little pond will be a paradise for all those terrible insekts. I know there´s a little japanese fish that we usually have in aquariums here in Sweden. It can take rather cold winters so I think they can survive in my pond if winter this year is like the once before. They are big enough to eat a lot of mosquito larvae, but small enough not to eat eventual tadpoles.

In one of the small sandpits we have here one can clearly see that the rain hasn´t really helped much. Even if it has rained for almost three days, You can see on the sand that it´s very light. The darker sand below is where the rain has hit from the side. We really needs a lot more rain, even if I really don´t want any more :-)
So with rain all day today it´ll probably be a day of reeding books and drinking tea (and a lot of running to the bathroom after all that tea :-) ). I´ll probably listen to the radio program "Summer talker" too, if I can get the station on my radio that is. I live sort of in a bowl when it comes to radio wawes, they have trouble to reach my cottage. But it usually works quite well on rainy days.
I read another of those small articles in my morning newspaper. A swedish thief broke in to a home and when he was there he couldn´t resist a slice of two weeks old pizza. He also left his chewing gum in the pizza carton. He then broke in to another home. The first thing he does is to throw up the pizza he had eaten. On his way home the police stopped him, he was so drunk they took him directly. Since he had left so many traces of him self during the brake ins they cold arrest him for that too :-) :-)
Have a great day now!

Nina

Hungry thief! Hey, Christer, I just saw you over on my blog . . . hehehe. Hope you enjoyed the Caturday! Your pond looks different and I can't wait to see the finished product. I didn't know you could find fish that would survive in the winter. I always thought they migrated. Learn something new every day. Sounds like you're having a nice vacation. When do you leave for up north?
So now you have all the rain I wonder if it might be that which has plagued us for the past month just now reaching you.
At least your pond will be well filled.
It´s not easy when one is hungry :-)
The pond looks much bigger in reality then on pictures. But I see that I can make it slightly wider than it is now, so I´ll probably do that.
Very few fishes actully migrates, But most of our fishes are to big to have in a little pond like mine. There are a few that might work, but one has to catch them first :-) :-)
Have a great day now!
Christer.
Hi Woody!
It is probably that rain. Rhe winds comes from south west, almost directly from Yours. So now we need a strong high pressure to keep most of it away :-)
The pond is already to full, so I really don´t need more water there :-)
Have a great day now!
Christer.
hi christer.....some of my fish make it over the winter and some don't. i am on a cooking spree and putting off organizing my witch things! why is there so much sand where you live? it must be from the ice age and the glaciers i would think. there is a desert in maine from that event. i finally had to get a new computer today. has it stopped raining yet? i am sitting here waiting for the storms to come!
Hi Joyce!
Yes all the sand comes from the ice age. This was also the bottom of the biggest lake ever some thousands years after the iceage too. The rest of that lake is nowdays the Baltic sea.
We only have one desert here in Scandinavia and that´s the danish island Läsö. A sandy half big island.
It doesn´t rain here at the moment, but it does where my oldest brother lives close to Gothenburg, so it´ll probably blow up to me during the night. But weather is clearing up from now they say :-)
Have a great day now!
Christer.
Woops! Another "great" (not!) thief!!;-)
Actually- som rainy days are good to... To have time to read etc. But...
Almost ready with the pond! Great job!
Lovely way to clean dogs from sand!!;-)
Must be terrible not be able to hear radio!! Neither F & I would have survived without the radio (P1)... I think!;-)
Så långt du har kommit med dammen. Men du, blod drickande flugor och mygg är i varjefall bättre än vampyrer, dom ska du väl få slippa undan hoppas jag ;)
Christer,
I can think of nothing better than curling up with a good book and a dog on a rainy day.
We are expecting huge numbers of mosquitoes after the rainy June we had. I have a keep the bugs away machine so I hope it works.
Enjoy your vacation!
Hi Nina!
Some thiefs are better than others :-) :-)
Most of the sand gets off any way, but not all. I noticed that in my bed yesterday evening :-)
It´s mostly P1 that I have troubles with and one of the commercial channels. Mostly it works though. One does survive, but it´s not easy :-)
Have a great day now!
Christer.
Tjänare Mia!
Jo det går fort när man väl kommer igång med arbetet på dammen.
Jo det är betydligt bättre än vampyrer :-) Fast jag har alltid undrat om vampyrbett kliar efteråt? :-)
Ha det gott nu!
Christer.
Hi Kat!
Best is to sit close to a window that the rain hits too, love that sound :-)
We haven´t had that many mosquitoes here this year, so I´m hoping for the best. Some places will be so bad hit by them that the governement now allows cemichal war against them. It´s a special mosquitoe that loves this dry weather followed by heavy rains like now. They´ll come in billions in some places! I´m not sure we have that mosquitoe here yet, but the more the climat will change, the more this mosquitoe will spread. I hope Your machine works good!
Have a great day now!
Christer.
